MS-GXWD 6000 multipoint fiber-optic
temperature sensor system is developed for monitoring
the temperature variations at multi-locations where
hazard conditions may present. Based on the optical
spectral detection scheme, this system is not subject
to the interference of electromagnetic environment such
as the location within a high voltage transformer or
a high voltage switchboard. With the use of an optic-fiber
to delivery and collect modulated light, the high-quality
optical signal can be transmitted over a long distance
to make sure a high-precision measurement can be achieved
remotely.
This temperature monitor system is capable to drive
up 32 channels, and each channel can connect up to 12
sensors. The total maximum number of temperature monitor
points can be 384. The measured temperature data can
be collected through RS232, USB or parallel interface
and restored in a host PC computer.
This multi point temperature monitoring system consists
of two major parts: the fiber-optic temperature monitoring
unit and the FBG based sensing probe. The Fiber-optic Temperature Monitoring Unit:
The main functions of the unit are to supply a light
source to and demodulate the signal collected from the
sensing probes. The collected signal are then analyzed
and processed. The temperature values are displayed
on the panel of the unit or transmitted through data
transmission lines to a host PC. The FBG Based Sensing Probe:
A small section of a Fibre Bragg Grating is hosted in
a purposed designed package. The material used is capable
of withstanding up to 110kV high voltage. The measured
temperature range is -20°C to 130°C.

● The light weight
and small size of the FBG based sensing probes are packaged
with good insulation materiel. They can be used in high
voltage and high humanity environment.
● Employing an optic fiber to transmit and collect the
signal improves the system operational stability, and
make the remote temperature monitoring over multi locations
much easier.
● The sensing probe is intrinsic immunity from electromagnetic
interference and especially suitable to be used in an
environment where a strong electromagnetic field distribution
present;
● The temperature sensor system offers a high measured
accuracy with a good linearity over the operational
range.
● The monitor unit can support up to 32 channels and
12 sensing probes in each channel.
